Join the movement to urge President Biden to end the carnage in Gaza.

When H.R. 786 was introduced in Congress less than four weeks ago, one of the whereas clauses stated that “between October 7 and October 16, 2023, armed violence has claimed the lives of over 2,700 Palestinians and over 1,400 Israelis, including Americans, and wounded thousands more;”.

At the time I am writing this letter, over 11,078 Palestinians and 1,200 Israelis have lost their lives prematurely and horrifically, with countless more wounded, displaced and traumatized. From a Reuters article published today, “More than 100 United Nations employees have been killed since the Israel-Hamas war began in Gaza, according to the United Nations Palestinian refugee agency (UNRWA) said on Friday, making it the deadliest conflict ever for the U.N. in such a short period of time.”

As a city council member representing Oakland, California’s District 3, and as a Commissioner on the Association of Bay Area Governments and the Alameda County Transportation Commission, I am asking each of my elected colleagues in Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area to join me and millions of people around the world calling on our federal government to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza now. This call includes the release of all hostages and immediate, unrestricted entry of humanitarian assistance into the region.

Regardless of where you stand on the issue, one cannot deny that the loss of life of innocent children is a failure of humanity that must end today. Will you join me?
