Carroll Fife is hitting her stride.

Oakland’s District 3 city councilmember, who represents West Oakland, Jack London, Downtown and Adams Point, took office in January 2021. But it took months — really, a year and a half — for her to figure out her new job, which is a significant departure from her days as a community organizer. It’s not just the logistics of a city council position: She’s also been determining who she can trust in city government, and who she can’t.
